    Two guys

    Okay, consider this:

We have two guys standing at the runway viewing area, at an airshow. One holds a DSLR he just bought at the big box store in town... the other... a DSLR he has owned for years! What are the chances?

One guy has a 70-400 f/4-5.6 ($1500) lens and the other a 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ($150) lens he picked up at the same time he bought his new camera.

One guy is set to a properly exposed aperture with a 1/2000th shutter speed while the new owner is set at... AUTO! (Yeah, the answer to all photographer's prayers, right?)

A F-18 Hornet jet is swooping in at close to 700mph... and the exhaust is swirling in it's twin contrail. It looks great in their respective viewfinders... Centered, locked in focus... the older camera is in AF-Continuous. The newer one -> AF-Automatic. The older camera's shutter is in burst mode. The newer... standard shutter release.

Both guys are lined up for this shot, zoomed in to maximum... hell, they could swear they can see the pilot's helmet!

They hit the shutter release at the same time. The jet roars by.

    Who's really got the shot?

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

Auto mode on a D3 would do better than me with any new dSLR I suppose
