    Unrealistic expectations

I see SO many posts here saying something to the effect of:

"I want a camera with a wide angle - 30x zoom and it has to fit on the head of a pin and take noiseless pictures in pitch black with no flash. My budget is $12.37. What should I get?"

Be realistic people! You have to make some tradeoffs. If you need super image quality and ISO performance, it won't fit in your pocket. Also if you could get top quality out of a $200 camera, why are people paying $1000-$10,000 for SLR cameras and lenses that are big, heavy and more difficult to use properly? Please remember that things are priced where they are for a reason. Adjust your wants and expectations accordingly!

The thing I've noticed is that every other person wants a camera they can fit in their back pocket that's somehow magical in low light.

You just nailed why I don't try to help people choose a camera anymore.
    Ouch.

Well, to be fair, many people just do not know anything about cameras or where to start, so they ask.

Actually, this is nothing like a customer service job. We can't get fired for telling the truth.
    Ouch.

I have no problem with someone asking questions like "which of these 3 cameras is the better deal?" or "What kind of camera should I get to take ____ photos?" These are general and don't ask for the unrealistic. When you put down a max budget of $100 and then put down you need 10 out of 10 image quality, well.....

Of course it's all relative. Someone else's 10 could be my 3.
    Ouch.
