    Just my luck :]

So at the event today I helped and hung out with the other photographer at the bball camp. Hes a really cool guy and after a couple hours of being around each other he suggested we work together. I accepted. But it gets better! Later on we were on the topic of glass and how I need a faster zoom lens for indoor sports but seeing as I am in between jobs I cant get one atm. He asked me what I did, I told him Im a computer consultant. He instantly goes "your kidding... so am i!". And after some tech chat he offered me part time work at his shop (which I have been to before but didnt know it was his) at $30 an hour. BUT IT GETS BETTER!!!! Seeing as we will be working events together now the want for new glass turns into a NEED so he fronts me the money for it. And we order it right there on the spot from his laptop.

He had been shooting with a Canon 10D all morning but after we made the order he picks his bag up, pulls out another body, slaps a 50mm 1.4 on and says "finish the day with this since you cant use your camera". In my head Im thinking he is prolly handing me a 20D or something but when I turn it around and look down the badge reading 40D! To save you all the details it was bliss... Why he chose to shoot the 10D instead I dont know and dont care.

So yeah thats my story. Anyone want to buy a good condition Nikkor 55-200mm VR?

Great news and such good luck. But don't totally put it down to luck, your skill with the camera also made it possible. So what glass did you order? Goodluck with the new job and hope everything works out.

sounds great reg ! thats a great opportunity. if it gets regular you should seriously consider moving to canon to share his great glass.

Thanks! Today was a great learning experience wanting him use his flash system. I actually helped him bounce it a couple times. And the lens is that Sigma 50-150mm F/2.8 HSM thats been sitting in the future glass part of my sig for way too long.

That would be nice seeing as he has some serious Canon glass but I just dont like Canons interface. Shooting with that 40D was breathtaking but the whole time in the back of my mind it just didnt feel like home. Ive already got my glass plans figured out so Im going to stay Nikon and pick up a D80 hopefully around December or January. Not to mention Id feel a lot more independent knowing I dont need him for his glass.

Nice lens choice and perfect for indoor sports. Now you'll be getting stuff that's even better than what comes out of that 55-200 VR. I should try it out for sports after seeing what you've been able to do with it, mine hasn't really gotten much use except general walkaround stuff and a wedding i attended.

I'd want it more too, there's something more exciting about a fast zoom. It'll be worth the wait. Post some shots after you get it.

    Freakin' sweet, man.

Let me know how that 50-150 works, yeah? Now that I'm finally getting some work myself, hopefully some good glass will show up in my rather barren sig.
