Any SD cards greater than 8GB in the future?

I am thinking of getting the Canon PowerShot TX1. It uses SD memory cards. I see the largest is 8GB, which would mean I could only take maybe 34 minutes of HD movies. Anyone know if in the future there will be SD cards with greater capacities? Any new announcements?

As far as I know, the TX1 still uses FAT32 file system, so is limited to a file size of 4G. Even with larger cards, you'll still be limited to a 16 minute long film clip before you have to break the filming.

That is pretty primitive. Time for SD to get its act together.

It has nothing to do with SD. It's the format of the filesystem that the camera uses. Actually, now that I think of it, FAT32 isn't the restriction, but it's something in the Canon chipset that is the restriction.

It's not a matter of the card in this case (an 8GB postage stamp sized card was unthinkable just a couple of years ago...and 16GB SD cards are in development...I think the "act" is pretty well together). It is a matter of how devices use the card and the file system(s) that they employ. Be sure to place "blame" accordingly...

Hey Dave...you beat me to it!

uhu, but I doubt it'll be for tomorrow
60Gb is a lot and it's expensive too, ever seend one of those SSD hard disk drives ( http://www.sandisk.com/Oem/Default.aspx?CatID=1478 ). Only 32Gb and they cost over $300
