Hello Everyone.

I own a D70 and am looking for a wide angle zoom lens. The ones I narrowed down to are:
(1) Sigma - 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG Aspherical Lens for Nikon AF
(2) Nikon 12-24mm f4G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor
(3) Tokina AT-X 124 AF PRO DX
(4) Sigma - 15-30 3.5-4.5 EX DG Lens
(5) Tamron - 17-35mm SP F/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Zoom Lens

Anybody has any pros and cons about these and which might be a better buy - more dough for the money.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(2) is the best quality-wise, but it's not worth the $900 price tag. (1) is a decent alternative to that but still costs at least $600 and is a slower lens. Do you really need ultra wide? What are you shooting that requires that?

(4) is a decent do-it-all wide lens, but (5) is better and has gotten some rave reviews. I haven't heard much at all about (3).

The best bang for the buck is definitely (5), but (1) is good too if you need ultra wide.

Tokina has the best price : performance ratio. I will go for Tokina.

Nikon is the best, by the way, if you can afford one.

The Tok has been getting good reviews at Nikonians and dpreview.

Out of those lenses though I really think the 17-35 gives the best bang for the buck. It's gotten rave reviews and is only $435. Plus that 2.8 may just come in handy for ya.

I was going to save for the Nikkor 12-24, but I don't think I'll miss the extra wide angle. Plus I'll have enough money to buy that Tamron 28-75...

Hmm, sounds like a very nice alternative to the Nikon 12-24 at half the price. Thanks for the links!
