How did you manage to get a picture of my brain today?

Good shot!

Very cool...I like it a lot. I have been having way to much fun lately experimenting with macro mode on my SD500. Post more macros!

This is a cool picture. I love the colors and especially the texture of the shells and the nuts.

Hi Folks

Thanks for the complements - most kind and greatly appreciated. Between you and me I really don't know what I am doing half the time. I find all the settings on the camera and photographic terms are very confusing.

Here's another macro shot on my Canon A80 of a daisy [Bellis perennis] taken indoors, with mini tripod, no flash, ap. f/8, exp. 0.125s or so the properties box tells me.

Hi

The black background is simply a piece of black card curved into a cardboard box. I keep this in shadow [the black is a more an absence of light] and shoot the flowers indoors against this. Light on black card looks very grey. The interior of a cardboard box even in shade is far too bright.

Out of curiosity Wombat what White Balance setting and what kinda lighting did you use in the image above. Very nicely done especially with the A80 an excellent camera.

Hi Bluedog

Thank you for the kind comments - much appreciated. I take most of my pictures on cloudy days sometimes in what seems very low light levels. I set the white balance to sunshine and then find I have still to turn the exposure compensation down 1/3 or 2/3. I think this is probably because it is in macro mode which, apparently, doesn't obey the "normal" rules of photography.
