I took these two photos with my 20D and was using the camera's *Auto* setting.

I was using my new Tamron SP AF 28-75 XR DI lens.

Question, if you guys were shooting this photo, what settings would you have used? Remember, I'm trying to learn.

Sorry for the large size.

All comments and criticism are welcomed.

btw, the salad was delicious.

I think a tighter shot on just the fruit, eliminating the bowl and spoon, would be great. I think the colors would really jump out (they're jumping pretty good already!) and it would take on a painting-like quality. I find that by removing context sometimes, you can get really mind-blowing shots...

Maybe if you get a chance, crop it and see how it looks. I'd be interested to see what happens to the visual impact. Hey...all of a sudden, I'm getting hungry...

What do you think about the focus?

My buddy was criticizing the focus of the edges of the bowl.

I thought it was a pretty good colorful photo.

The first shot could use a little more field depth. But the focus on the second shot is fine...and I think it's really nit-picking to concentrate on the bowl's edge and to criticize the overall shot because of it. Just my two cents. Uh, I'm still hungry here...

I agree that eliminating the bowl and spoon and just concentrating on the fruit would make for an amazing shot. Also some more DOF would be nice in the first shot, and maybe trying not to use the flash (I don't know if it was in these shots, but that's how it looks to me) would help also. Good photos though.
