View Full Version : Enhancing Portraits in PS

I had a few minutes to kill at work, so I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite techniques for giving your portraits a more "pro studio" look using PS.

Teeth Whitening:
How many of you have taken a great portrait of someone's beautiful smile only to find that you were distracted by yellow teeth! Convert it to B&W, did you? Well no more.

It is very easy to whiten teeth in PS or PSE in a way that makes them look more natural. Simply draw a selection around the offending teeth, choose the Hue/Saturation control, select Yellow from the "Edit" dropdown, and slide the saturation slider to the left. You will desaturate the yellow leaving only sparkling pearly whites.

The Eyes
The eyes should always be the focal point of any good portrait. I like to select only the eyes (hold ctrl while drawing to select both at once) and bump up either the curves (PS) or the levels (PSE) just slightly. The result will be bright beautiful eyes!
