View Full Version : CF card won't show my photo

I have an EOS Rebel 300D. I shot several photos today using a 256MB Promaster Compactflash memory card and reviewed them in the LCD monitor. They looked great but when I looked at them one last time Error-2 displayed in the LCD panel. I put the memory card in my computer and have been unable to retrieve the photos. A window saying " this doc may be damaged (the file my be truncated or incomplete).
Can you come up with any possible solutions to retrieving these images? I took the memory card to a kiosk and could not pull them up. I even copied them to a CD and they still did not come up.
When I right click on the image it shows that there are 4.00 KB so I think something is there, I just can't view it.
Thank you for your help!

Not certain what could be wrong. However, they seem to be lost. The fact that you tried to review them in the camera and then got a card error is not good. Also, a size of 4k is far too small for even an image from a 1996 digicam with 240x320 resolution. Your only hope might be to try one of the many image recovery utilities.

I have been reading some materials online, and some people say that you should never put a camera's card into a reader directly attached to a PC, you should only use the card in the camera attached to a PC, download your stuff and then format the card in the camera. See: http://www.datarescue.com/laboratory/smartflash.htm for what you think about this.

However, here's some links for some software to try to recover the card, this is not an extensive list, you can google 'memory card data recovery' and find lots of links.

This one will recover the first 10 images and if you register at the site will give you a 15% discount on the $39.95 price.

This one will show you what is recoverable from your card, but I think that you have to pay for it to actually fix it, also $39 online.

This is the Sandisk recovery software page, the software is $40, and I believe that the demo will only show you what it can recover. Has a special method for recovering movies.

This is shareware product that will support the file systems used on memory cards, it is however, actually designed as a hard disk recovery program. The pay price for the shareware is also $40.

This is terrible. I've been hearing a lot about CF cards damaging photos - someone should look into the quality of these cards.
