I have a family reunion in August at Myrtle Beach SC and want to get a new lens for the occasion. I think i have it dialed down to two different lens's but that could change with all of your opinions.

The two lens's that i have chosen are the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/633611-REG/Sigma_202205_10_20mm_f_3_5_EX_DC.html) or the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/689618-REG/Sigma_583205_17_50mm_F2_8_EX_DC.html)

Okay so you are going to use the lens for a few days or a week perhaps at the family reunion. Then what?

Do you have a constant requirement for an UWA 10mm lens? Unless wide angle is your thing I suspect that the 10-20 will largely sit in the camera bag unused so of those two I'd go with the 17-50 as it will probably be a lens that you will use more generally for a much longer period.
Don't forget that a 10-20mm lens isn't real good for portraiture. Sure you may get a shot of the whole family crammed into a small space but the distortions and exaggeration of depth in a WA will mean it will most likely be an unflattering shot. If you want to take group shots you'd be far better to get everybody outside somewhere and step back a bit with the 17-50 set at 35mm to get a nice photo with everybody with correct proportions.

Ok that sounds good. I dont want to have a lens thats going to cost about $700 and it be rarely used.

If you want wide angle as well for the reunion rent one for a week or however long you need it.

A standard 18-55 (without constant F/2.8) will do nicely. And a speedlight.
Like K1W1 said.... the ultra wide 10-20 will fit more in but the distortion will be horrible.
