Well I am back (and knackered - drinking every night and "sleeping" in Hostels...hostels are horrendous).

Anyway, onto more pleasant things...the weather was really nice while I was there. Cold but clear. Unfortunately no D80...so shouldnt strictly be on this forum :D But it wouldnt be the same anywhere else...used my Fuji F11 for all these.

C&C welcome as always.

So what did I miss about my D80?

Handling
Versatility
The lack of purple fringing
Creativity
Dynamic range

However, I could take the F11 everywhere in my pocket with a tiny tripod and was constantly impressed with its photo quality...

However, I would never dream of going without my D80 again :D

omg...you're gonna be very hard to "beat" this year. another stunning set.

i dont say this lightly...i think #1 may be the best shot i've ever seen on this site. i would buy that and hang it on a wall very large. watermark it immediately.

Picture quality sucks for a Nikon, what's up with that?

Oooh... ;)

Thanks Rooz! It was right place right time. The lighting was bang on (for midday!) because it cast a strong contrast through the buildings.

Unbelievable place.

:D I agree...but then my back is surprisingly less painful for not having carried about 10 kg around with me :p

Crickey Herc I was going to say I think your posting some of my favourite images of all time (that I can remember through the filter of immediacy at least) then I saw some strong praise from Rooz and realised I was obsolete:D

Wow, and it's no 2 for me with those colours.

Just stop it, man... I can't even look at my own Prague pics after that...

(and #1 is what does it for me too)

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the comments.

Think something I was surprised by was the lack of "photo anxiety". I had my compact and didnt feel like I would be missing opportunities. I just took a photo and moved on. Also, I wasnt wondering what lens to use, and what effect to go for. I had one lens and a 3x (i think!) zoom. There were times when I missed the extra options, but having just one lens makes a real difference. Dont think I have the balls to leave all but one of my lenses at home, but I will certainly take maybe just one with me when I am out (and come out again with a specific lens if I need it)

Thanks again

PS Coming out here has made me more excited about photography again. Think I was getting bored of London...sounds stupid, but if you live, study and work somewhere for 27 years, you soon tire of it.

Glad you like your F11 more than I like my F10. When I used it as my only camera for a trip to London a few years ago, I was disappointed with the IQ when I got back and looked at the pics.

Unlike yourself, I had little choice, as that was my only camera at the time. I never had a dSLR until later that year -- and much of the reason why I looked into getting a dSLR was because I was unhappy with the results I was getting from all the P&S cameras I tried (and the F10 was supposedly one of the best P&S on the market at that time).

I have since found that I only really like P&S cameras that can shoot in RAW mode (mainly to bypass the horrible NR and in-camera processing with JPEGs). I am reasonably satisfied with the results I get with my Canon A710is (with CHDK RAW firmware) and Panasonic LX3 if I have to go with a P&S only.

Number 6 was stunning, from my point of view. Though I very much liked number 1 also. And the sunset one. And several others.

Damn.

Thanks. I think that was my favourite of the bunch.
I want to go back with my D80!

Great pictures, Phil. Number 1 is definitly my favourite, it's absolutely fantastic. The lighting is great and it's a good choice making this one black and white.

I also like number 6 a lot. I love the atmosphere of this picture.

The nightscapes are nice as well, especially the first of the two. However, you can clearly see the limits of the dynamic range of the camera in these pictures (in the highlights).

By the way, perhaps a bit late, but congratulations for moving to Hungary. Must be an amazing experience.

Thanks Dennis. Yeah, you are very right about the dynamic range...its very clear on some shots.

Budapest is amazing BTW , a photographers dream!

Wow Cincy, what a top location Prague is. Love that statue with the soldier underneath.

Herc well thats the ladscapes, didn't someone say something before you went about photogenic ladies?:D

Seriously though it's been another weekend, did you get any shots to post?

Unfortunately, with a compact, the lady shots are too obvious. Why do you think I bought the 55-200? :D

Not been in Prague unfortunately, back in Budapest. Here are some of there though!:

Thanks guys...

Number 1 is a HDR black and white. One of only a few black and white HDR's I have done...makes a big difference!

Hmm I wouldn't have guessed, with all of those people in the picture HDR is tricky business.

Cincy has pretty pictures, that's for sure, but Herc, your pictures SPEAK to me. They seriously make me tingle. And yes, I LOVED shot 1 this time too. And the leafy one my H liked a lot.

I'm going to have to buy some prints from you. #6 in your first set and #1 in this one. OMG, I ADORE them.

That is very kind of you to say :D

And a massive compliment. I like that you think they speak to you, as when I take a picture I try to think what the viewer is looking at and what will make it interesting. Therefore, I try to have something in each shot that will capture imagination. Thats the theory :D the rest is luck !!
