Hey Folks!

New to the site, new to photography.

About me, im 31, married, kids. Im just now getting into photography.

I guess it started about a month ago when i got my bonus from work. I decided i was finally going to buy something for myself, almost got power tool sbut then i thought maybe a new camera would be nice cause my old panasonic point & shoot was getting old.

Im also a Moderator on a mustang forum board, i asked about a camera reccommendation and somone put up a pic of a white mustang taken with a Nikon D40 and i was instantly sold.

I did some research, and went though some less than idea ordering processes with some shady online dealers that had unbelieveable deals on American Nikons with US warrantys that turned out to be grey market cameras with warranties from bengledesh. ha. well, maybe not bengledesh, but certainly not the good ol USA.

finally gave up and bought a Nikon D40 at Circut city about 3 weeks ago. Got the 55-200mm af-s lens and im kicking myself in the ass for not getting the VR lens, but hey, i can always get one later. Picked up a 4g SDch card and ive already taken well over 1,000 shots.

Im loving this camera. I know it is on the lower end of things, but i couldnt be happier (unless the 55-200 was vr lol)

Anyways, ill throw up a couple pics ive taken so far.

I look forward to posting on here and getting to know you all, and i look forward to learning as much as possible.

Here are a couple from my first Nikon D40 photoshoot with the mustang.

Welcome to Nikon ;)

The saturation is a bit extreme for my tastes in pic #3 but I am used to Adobe Camera Raw's "Vibrance" setting as I turn all in-camera settings to neutral...totally different workflow, I know.

You won't miss VR, that much. You will only need it when shooting still scenes handheld in low light (slower shutter speeds).

If you don't have a tripod yet, I'd recommend that as your next purchase for car shots if you think you will be doing a lot of that type of work.

Do you have a wider lens yet to complement the 55-200? Something in the range of 17-50, 18-55, 18-70 etc?

Thanks!

Yeah the color came out pretty bright on that one. lol.

I have the 18-55mm kit lens along with the 55-200m.

Got a tripod. cheap vanguard $40 tripod, nothing fantastic but it holds the camera secure enough for my purposes. For now anyways. :D

Nice car, wish I still had my 65 GT ;) I like the second shot the best, probably because of the background (looks like Chatfield SP BTW) and the wicked shine!

The D40 is a quite capable camera and don't worry about missing the VR too much. Definately look into something on the wide end like a 17-55 or 18-55 depending on your budget.

Damn, nice call. It is near Chatfield actually, its right next to Hine Lake which is maybe 5-6 miles north of chatfield

I LOVE Mustangs. My fav being the '64 1/2 ragtop in red with black interior. I've never owned one, but when I'm rich and famous, I plan on restoring them. I even went to the Mustang Museum when it was still located in SD. God, I love those cars.

And I like Nikons too. :)

Lol... im definatly a mustang fan myself.

Unfortunatly i have to sell her, i got her when i was single with 2 roomates to split my mortgage, now im married with a baby and a stepson and that money im puttin down for car payments could definatly go somewhere better

i hope to have her sold soon, and maybe next year picking up an 89-92 mustang 5.0 and building her up for drag racing.

My stang tried to kill me... I liked it, but I don't think it liked me (or wet slippery Oregon weather). Of course it was only a 4-banger.

One day I might get another (fox-body 5.0 mayhap). Anyway, welcome.
