Which low-end Nikon (Nikkor) lenses ... are using plastic lens mounts?
I got asked a similar question concerning other lenses (not Nikon), but it made me wonder ... is this how they cut the costs? I know those foul kit lenses were subject to this (Hey, I have one).
I'm wondering about the 70-300, 55-200 ... and those kind.
I think most of them,
18-55 in various formats
55-200VR
70-300 G lens (not VR)
Looks like the new 18-105 kit lens is plastic at the body end.
Personally I don't have a problem with a plastic mount. I have never heard of anybody actually having a problem with a Nikon lens that relates to the plastic mount and I think the perceived problems relate more to lens snobbery than reality.

Dude. Don. I just checked your gear list. Stop. Okay, seriously, stop it. No more. enough is enough. I know its just money and you can't take it with you and all, but seriously, (insert record scratch noise!) stop.
You wanna send me a D700, I'll send you a D90, a D80, and 18-105 VR, an 18-135 (for you to do with what you like, throw it off a parking garage), a 55-200VR, and a Siggy 10-20 HSM. Fair trade?
yes, i imagine thats how they cut costs and weight since the consumers they are aimed at are interested in both of those things.
i've owned quite a few lens' with plastic mounts and personally never had a problem with them.

Likke I said, I was curiously asked to turn the end of my new TAMRON 70-200 around ... and the comment came back with, "I like that mount. Very nice."
Now, please understand that this was a died-in-the-wool Nikon dealer, so it was that short comment that made me curious about asking you guys.
Be it known that the plastic base on a SONY/Minolta or Canon lens has the connotation of being a "cheap" or low-cost build. One of the things that TAMRON changed when they went from the 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 (plastic) to the new 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 (metal) was that mount.
Honestly, that's all. So my being unfamiliar with Nikon glass ... I figured it was worth a check.

Hey, AP ... when did ya get the D90? Is that your "go to" camera while you are having that UWA yanked off your D80?
