i suspect its either MX or the high MP D3x...perhaps even a rangefinder ?
cant think of what else would be "big".

I may have to stay in town and attend WPPI again. I also received a recent email referring to Adobe Photoshop CS4 though I'm still using CS2.

I feel like it won't be the D3x, I mean, people already know that's coming?

When the ads first appeared some weeks ago the suggestion was a Nikon Rangefinder.

the "afford it" bit kinda has a big influence on the "give a crap" bit. :p

i just dropped $2k on a new lens. by the end of the year i reckon i'll spend another $1.5k on the new 85/1.4. then next year a d700 for around $2.5k.

thats around $6k...and thats not taking into consideration the NAS for the 50/1.4 afs, 200/4 af-s macro and 70-200/2.8 VRII so not much room left for a d3x now is there ? lol

Wow, get some help. Seems like last week when you were using a D80.

Maybe I can help. Oh wait, I am using 2 systems now and possibly going to 3

Very nice Rooz, please get some shots in when you get the chance. I saw pics from the one you borrowed, but I'd love to see what you can do with it now that you can spend more time with it.

Its on my list of lenses I'd like to pick up... I've only got 1/3 of the "Holy Trinity" of Nikkor Zooms. Gotta pick that bad boy up and a hopefully new 70-200.

Ooooo, any word yet on possible release date? I want to get photoshop, but I want to wait for CS4 to come out, since I plan on keeping the same version for a while (too much $$$ to upgrade!).

Adobe are pretty good about upgrades. Generally as soon as they announce a new product buyers of the old version get a free upgrade from then on.

CS4 is set to be "unveiled" to the public via a webstream broadcast on Tuesday (Wednesday in the Pacific/Asia) - sign up for more on this page: http://adobe.istreamplanet.com/

for those of you that are interested. From NikonRumors who have been right on the money lately. i think this MX may be the real deal. i like where Nikon is headed here. bigger sensor for the bigger MP models. so maybe a 21mp for FX but the 30+ MP stuff for a much larger sensor to retain noise performance.

like i said before hand, Mamiya et al better watch their backs cos i think CaNikon are coming to get em.

http://images.quickblogcast.com/3/2/2/2/2/130718-122223/Nikon_MX_orig.jpg

What i particulalry like about this is that larger sensors with more resolution means that they MUST update lens' to match the sensor performance. when you consider the new 24-70 and 14-24 clearly outresolve the current 12mp Nikon sensors i think nikon have been planning this for some time.

But, how do you project an FX image circle onto a larger sensor? It would be the same as using DX on FX.

Rooz
09-29-2008, 04:07 AM
yepp, i would imagine that it would mask and downsample the same way that a D3 does with a DX lens. so lets say its a 30mp camera, it could mask an FX lens at reduced resolution down to say 15mp but operate at full resolution for a line of MX lens'.

Is that not medium format?

I imagine that this kit would cost stupid amounts of money and be resigned to a studio?

The FX kit aint cheap, so MX would be sky rocket high

Canon too? I thought it was just Leikon (or is that Neica)?

I don't think there's any special design strategy for FX lenses so they could be used on an MX sensor in crop mode. If you're going to be using an MX sensor in crop mode, what's the difference compared to using it on a regular FX sensor? Not much, because the pixel density / pitch is not going to be any denser / tighter than say a 24 MP FX sensor or a 12 MP DX sensor.

Anyone else completely underwhelmed with Nikons announcements at Photokina. Point and shoots? Really? You saved Point and shoots for the big photo show?

i couldnt care less about camera bodies. this year they've hit us up with a D90 and D700 which is plenty, especially as a follow up to a d300 and D3 from late last year.

what i'm very disappointed about is the lack of prime lens updates. one measly 50/1.4 afs ? f*%k that. they are definately coming but WHEN ???!?! i can only think that they have heaps of 85/1.4's, 35/2's and 20/2.8's in stock and want to run the stock down even further before making an annoucement on updates.

I want to hear news about competitors to Canons F4L lenses. Very high quality, lightweight, and cost effective compared to f/2.8 zooms.

Until then, meh...

It is my understanding that with MX , a whole slew of MX lenses will be announced...and I don't know if they will make current lens' compatible?

My guess would be that with the image circle needed to cover a sensor of medium format proportions, it would require a completely new lens mount.

Now, maybe there would be a F-Mount adapter made to get F-Mount lenses to work, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Not worth it for the vignetting you'd get.

They could offer a crop mode just like they have on the FX cameras.

Did somebody at Nikon develop some humour, trying to set up all the user forums (and of course nikonrumors.com) big time?

ROTFL!

yeah looks like they duped their fanbase pretty good!

I am not sure why they would have wanted to do that, but to each their own..

I think that you are being a bit harsh in a world dominated by marketing spin.
Besides, how do you know that there is not going to be some important announcement AT the event?

yeah thinking about it more, I don't think they would leave their fans hanging like that. :)
