View Full Version : Anyone have a picture of the Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 on their D300 or D700?

Hi all,

I couldn't find any good pictures of this combo (a few smaller sized ones) and I'm curious to see how large this lens looks on the D700. I know the lens is large, but I'm curious to see how big it actually looked mounted on the camera.

If you have the MB-D10 grip and an external flash (SB-900 or 800 would be great) that would be nice to see too.

I'm afraid my future setup with grip, lens, and flash may look like an expensive monster with everything attached. Sort of like a photographic Voltron or Power Rangers device.

Granted, they're not going to be on at the same all of the time, but I'm sure it'll happen sometimes, and I'd hate to look like a poser (http://www.kenrockwell.com/Images/index/KR-WAP-2k.jpg) with the most gigantic and flamboyant photo gear I can get walking around town.

Thanks

Excellent. Thanks again Rooz. I did do a google image search and I did see a thumbnail version of the first picture, but I could not find that 2nd one. I also found a YouTube video with the flash, but you could never see a complete shot of the setup as they were too close in.

Thanks again.

flickr is a great place to look for that sort of stuff. there are just so many photos there someone is bound to have what you want.

so...when are you getting the 24-70 ? lol i must admit its not on my list cos of the size. i'll stick to my tiny little trusty primes for the time being. :) i'm hoping that in the coming 12-18mnths nikon will release some f4 lens'. (like the 17-40/4L and 70-200/4L).

Well, I'm torn between the 28-300 Tammy VC or 24-70 f/2.8... which ever one I decide on I'll get this week. Next lens purchase will probably be in October or November.

The 24-70mm would be nice because it covers a bit more wide angle than the Tammy, has unbeatable sharpness, build quality, auto focus speed and nice large aperture. But with my current lens situation, it'll only takes me to 70mm on FX and thats not very telephoto. I'd eventually like to go 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200 at f/2.8.

However, going with the Tammy would cover just about every focal length but the ultra-wide for very cheap. Its also a nice because its small, light, and doesn't draw attention to itself (my big concern with the size of the 24-70mm). Its just a shame its just at very small apertures and some autofocus hunting issues in low light. Not sharp picture at 250-300 they say, but even at 250mm, thats 180mm longer than I would get with the 24-70mm.

I'm pretty torn between these two as I plan on getting both eventually. One part of me says get the pro lens worthy of the camera its being placed on, the other says get the superzoom for now to cover 99% of my focal length needs until I can get the rest.

imho the 24/28/35/50/85 primes are so good that i find myself not really envying the 24-70. (although i wouldnt turn it down if someone wanted to give me one !).

below 24mm is where nikon primes struggle. especially below 20mm. so for me the 14-24 makes most sense cos i can cover the 24-70 easily with a 35 and a 50 but i cant cover the 14-24 with anything...well...then again...there is the 17-35mm. its just so damn hard when there is too much glass and not enuf cash... :(

Yes, the Nikkor Primes are indeed very nice, I do have the 50mm f/1.4 and its a great lens. Unfortunately I don't have the nice set of primes like you do, so I might as well go for the Zoomer right now. I hear nothing but good things about the 24-70mm, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

To now accurately answer your question, I just ordered the 24-70 earlier today, so I'll be getting that soon. My body, grip, lens, and flash will look like a photographic monster when put together.

I hear unless you're using Filters, the 14-24 blows the 17-35 out of the water and is probably the better buy. Additionally if you're sticking with DX, I think Nikon makes a 12-24 f/4 as well, another option to consider.

Oh please do...I'm dying for one of those...

I think you made the right decision ;)
