Been eyeballing the 17-55mm 2.8 for a while. Seeing prices in the $900-1050 range (? strange how they are still holding their value so well...new ones cost $1199).

Anyway, found an auction selling the D200 with grip and battery plus the lens and 4GB card. I got in around $900 mark a few days ago. With just 40 minutes left in auction it was only up to $1,200. I stayed in right up to the end...my final bid was $1,450, a little higher than I wanted to spend, and someone dropped the $1,500 bid with 3 seconds left. Of course they may have bid a lot higher and just won at that price.

Still would have been a good deal @ $1,500 (figuring $900 for lens and ~$800 for the body...heck, forgot about grip + CF card...damn, I should have bid more!)

Oh well, back to looking.

I've read great things about the Tamron...just wanting to stay with Nikon for this lens.

You have the 12-24 and 70-200.. I think you need 24-70 instead :p heheheheh. I envy your set up! Couple more SB600's and the 24-70 should set you well.

SCORE! Lots and lots of 17-55mm 2.8's on ebay, I'm guessing because people moving to FX sensor cameras (thank you D700). Thought I had one locked up, but was out-bid at last moment @ $830 + shipping.

So I see another 17-55mm due to finish auction around 3:00 AM local time(???), and I throw in bid of $830. Wake up this morning to see I won! And best part is shipping and insurance is included in that $830.

After seeing many, many 17-55mm's going for $900-1000 I feel I got a pretty good deal. Now just hope the lens lives up to the sellers description.
