I haven't been to either for some time.

What is the accepted thing these days? Do people take photos?
In this case the wake in particular is a celebration of the persons life and will involve (at the parents request) a Soccer game for the team mates.

I went to one that was pretty casual the other weekend. I took a few pictures, but I tried to be respectful about when I was taking them. I saw a couple other people with their cameras out.

The only photo I ever saw of my paternal grandmother was in her coffin...not my cup of tea.

That seems a little odd to me.

I recently had a funeral for my father in law and looking back there was not a single camera either at the service or at the reception.

I took pictures of my mother's funeral but not when the coffin was open.

If it were for someone other than a close family member, I'd leave the camera at home or ask if they'd like pictures of the game.

The funeral was extremely large (around 500) and well covered by the local press all of whom had Nikons BTW and EXTREMELY large and expensive lenses so they didn't intrude. My camera stayed in the car I probably would have been unable to use it (mentally) anyway.

The Soccer game turned into a great affair at around 30 a side and I was walking around on the pitch in the midst of the game wearing a suit in the dark taking action shots. :) A great celebration of the young boys life.

How sad, is that the young boy who fell of his bike at the bike park? It's scary hearing stories like this when you are a parent.
