I have had a dilemma for a while now.
My Manfrotto monopod has a QR plate but my tripod does not so whenever I use the tripod I take the QR plate off my camera and use the traditional screw mount to secure the base of the camera to the tripod. It's a bit of a pain but it doesn't happen that often and "one day" I intended to buy a new head for the tripod that has a QR plate fitting.
This morning I wandered into a camera shop (punishment for my son for making me take him to purchase a new XBox controller across the road) and I found

It adapts a traditional screw head tripod to a QR. What a great find and worthwhile for anybody who has a screw head tripod and wants something easier to use.

I'm happy (and so is my son, guess what he is doing at the moment. :) )

have one of those on my Vangaurd.

It works nice for its inteded purpose, but a PITA to mount/unmount on the camera

?
You screw the QR plate to the bottom of the camera and never touch it again.

Nah, I don't want it stuck to the bottom of my cam the whole time.

Mine has the screw on the bottom, so it's a bit unbalanced and I can't put the cam on the ground for some low level shooting

kiwi is saying the QR plate is left on the cam the whole time. i have the same issue as kiwi in that i have iot on most of the time but have to take it off if i use the monopod. its a flat stable surface that will sit on the ground no problem. whatever you are referring to must be a different design.

At Camera House $45 but still a fraction of what a decent ball head would have cost and I don't end up throwing away a perfectly good existing head on my tripod.
On ebay probably about $10. :)

I said much the same thing to the sales guy (didn't know it existed) and he agreed. He said that there are so many gems buried in the Manfrotto catalogue it's ridiculous.

$63 at D-D Photographics PLUS $$16 postage.
$42.90 at Vanbar PLUS $20 shipping.

I thought Camera House was expensive.
