Just went out and bought the Nifty Fifty. Why? Because it's too cheap not to have in my bag:p Haven't cracked it open yet. I'll post some results and my opinion of it soon.

If it's your first prime lens, you'll be amazed how sharp it is. My only problem with the lens was inconsistent focusing on my XT (plus generally they're soft below F2.8). But certainly worth the $80 you'd pay for one new.

Yup very happy with it so far (especially for the price). Focusing doesn't seem too bad, maybe a little noisy but what could I expect. I'm loving the low light use. Here's one I got out of it last night.

I shot some portraits with my Nifty Fifty last Friday: http://jkasakarate.com/gallery5/index.html

Nothing special like some of the other members' portraits.

All shot at f/1.8. The group picture was shot with the kit lens.

I sometimes miss mine.

It feels like it came out of a gumball machine, but its a great little lens, IMO. Many people actually prefer the bokeh of this lens over its bigger brother, the 50 1.4.

I tested it against my 50 1.4 when I got it and the 50 1.8 was nearly as sharp with less CA!!

I sometimes think about picking up another copy, just because its so small and light - you can keep it in your pocket!!

Enjoy it - its a great lens optically for the money, but the AF isn't the best for moving targets.

If the manual focus was any good either, I would buy it in a minute :(

I love mine. Probably cuz glass has always been more important to me than build quality...

But f1.8 is the max aperture of the nifty fifty. Maybe you're thinking about the canon 50mm f/1.4. It is much more expensive than the 1.8. Nice shots anyways:) love the BOKEH.
