you need to get the sigma 10-20mm HSM or the nikkor 12-24mm if you want AF. the tamron isn;t very good and the tokina won;t AF on the d40x.

whats your price range and preferred focal length for the zoom lens ?

The 10-20mm is a good choice. It's about $475 US, though, which is pricey, but super wide angle always is.

AF= autofocus.

If you don't need specifically a low-light zoom, pretty much everyone will recommend the Nikkor 55-200mm VR. It's a great deal and very good, plus vibration reduction.

the hood comes with the lens. here are 2 links.

try and see what you can buy locally though, postage may be expensive. i think you are in dubai ?? surely there must be a local seller there somewhere ? the tokina is a 12-24mm lens, so the sigma offers an even wider view.

i buy all my filters here:

Are you sure these guys are legit? They seem a little sketchy. In particular, they sell ALLOY B+W filters. There's no such thing, according to B+W's website... unless I am missing something.
