Rather than showing how many exposures my memory card has left, it just seems to display the amount of memory it has.
ex: 1.8 rather than 400.
Anybody know how to reset that display so I know how many more pictures I can take?

Is there a little k next to the 1.8? If so, that mean 1.8k or 1800 frames remaining before you run out of memory. You can verify this by changing the camera to RAW mode or higher quality JPG and seeing if that number goes down.

I have a 4GB card in mine and can take 580(ish) in RAW mode, but as soon as I go to JPG it goes above 1000 and turns into what you are seeing.

Shawn is correct. 1.8 means 1800 (approx).
You must have a large v=card and be shooting in a very compressed mode to get that sort of count.
