I haven't been able to confirm this yet. Perhaps someone else has seen some more definitive evidence. Apparently there's a story going around that at least some of the photos from the games are not downsized, but actual 100% crops. That might put a new twist on things, if someone can confirm this. My Japanese isn't so good (about 3 words).

The set (http://forum.xitek.com/showthread.php?threadid=466853&pagenumber=3) of 9 or more pages contains a bunch of images. This thread (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1039&message=24588190) contains the rumor. This is the post (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1039&message=24588882) with the rumor.

Nikon are so financially strapped after giving away all those D3s that they only lenses they were able to fit were 50mm f1.8 ones.

good stuff.
I'm eager to see D300 high ISO shots in low light.

Did you read the post by the guy claiming these were crops? Quite frankly, it sounds like some overzealous Nikon fan trying to start something...

These are unbelievably great photos from a pro using a D3. ISO 5000 pictures cropped down to a paltry 1000 pixel width and posted at 100%. Now that means the original would be 4.3 times wider. Awesome. Simply awesome. This puts the D3 WAY at the top for PJ, Sports, Event, Wedding, and other low light use.

As you can see, he is stating these are crops as if everyone knew they were (but, nobody did). Then he goes on about how the D3 is WAY at the top...How farkking typical of someone trying to start $h!t. And to further indicate it's a bogus claim, the guy hasn't returned to the thread...yet.

All these rumors are fun to follow, but it's getting somewhat out of hand.

That first link gives me nothing but a blank page, the one that's supposed to have the images on it

Yes, it looks like that link doesn't work anymore. I think there may still be some of the photos in the thread, but I have not checked.
