Hey ooverdrive, how you doing my friend? Lookin at Nikon;) the kit lens uses a 52mm thread I'm not sure that it will allow you to af or focus properly with that converter and it may vignette. there's a very good 55-200mm VR lens $249 US that the guys have been getting great results with. :)

You may be able to get an adapter for it, like comes with the Raynox macro converter: http://www.amazon.com/Raynox-Macro-Scan-Conversion-Universal-Diameters/dp/B0002YBXBY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-9700163-7196608?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181402755&sr=8-1

It will fit on my D50 kit lens with the adapter, but it is best used at the wide end. Otherwise I get "serious" vignetting as seen here :D :http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33445&highlight=raynox

No vignetting with a prime lens, of course. Autofocuses better on a prime, too.
WELCOME to the Nikon camp!!!!! :D :D ;)
