I was browsing Yahoo news over the Christmas holiday. I found an interesting article in which was stated:

New Battery May Power Digital Devices
Fri Dec 24,10:00 PM ET
By YURI KAGEYAMA, AP Business Writer
TOKYO - Americans and Europeans will soon be able to buy a more powerful battery that promises enough juice for twice as many digital pictures as regular batteries.

You can read the story for yourself at yahoo news (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041225/ap_on_hi_te/digital_battery_1)

The Oxyride battery, developed by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., maintains higher voltage and output longer because its electricity-producing materials can be packed more closely inside the cell.

If that's true then it will be an interesting challenger to lithium batteries and the price of lithium batteries should plummet.

The Oxyride battery will be available in the United States and Europe in April, a year after it was first sold in Japan. AA and AAA Oxyride batteries will cost about 10 percent more than regular, alkaline batteries, Matsushita officials said.

As far as prices go, I imagine the British trend will be followed where it'll cost ten times the real price until people cotton onto the fact they're being ripped off, after which it will drop gradually.
