View Full Version : 5mins DIY Flash Diffuser for Portraits...with results!

I was playing around the other day and experimenting with flash portraits with my XTi and the Canon 277T Manual Flash. This flash does not have a bounce head, and hence the Flash fired direct on subject which resulted in a 'deer in the headlight look'.

This flash comes with a Wide Angle Panel, but even using that does not help. So, i cut a few pieces of different types of paper (bond paper, tracing paper, blotting paper, butter paper, etc) of the exact size of the flash and then inserted one sheet in between the flash and the Wide angle panel. I took a couple of test shots with different combinations and here are the results:

Pic 1 : Just Flash with Wide Panel.

Pic 2 : Flash with 2 sheets of Tracing Paper.

Pic 3 : Just Flash without Wide Panel.

Pic 4 : Flash with 2 sheets of Tracing Paper.

All the pics were taken at 1/60s, f/5.6. WB was set to 'Flash' in all the shots. The results are obvious, the tracing paper also casts a 'warm' tone which i seem to like with portraits.

What do u say?

Great effect, Viky. Could you post a shot of the flash setup?
