I ended up buying a Crumpler $6 Million Home, but I'm not terribly happy with the way my D80 fits in it with the 70-300 mounted. It fits, and the bag closes, but the combo is tall enough that the entire assembly is resting on the lens, not on the padded camera supports.

Is carrying this combo this way a bad idea?

What are you all using for a bag with this combo?

I have the same issue with my 5 Million Dollar Home if I have a 70-300 lens fitted.
I've never had a problem with either the lens or the body.

In the store, the $5M looked like it would be too small. Seemed bit shorter than the $6. Are you happy with the way your kit fits in there?

I had this issue when I had the 6 mil. I really didn't mind because it isn't bad for the lens - especially if you have the cap on and hood reversed. I think this will be a problem with a lot of bags and haven't seen any that are deeper. You could always put the camera in horizontally. Also, try moving one of the dividers all the way to the top so that it does support the body. I'm pretty sure I tried that once and it worked well. :)

I was delusional when I thought the 5mil would work for me, just goes to show some things should just be bought off the shelf. I ended up with the Tamrac Pro 5, it keeps things where you put them. Works great with the 70-200mm attached. I've been toying with the idea of buying two more D40's mount the 17-55mm on one and the 105mm macro on the other would never have to change lenses. :D Plus it has four pockets and a retractable utility bag. real nice setup.

Anyone have any of the Crumpler Backpacks?

It looks like the Whickey and Cox should fit this setup fine. It compromises accessibility for space and security.

What about the Customary Barge? Anyone put a D80 and 70-300 in there?
