the packages I'm getting are
sony W80 with a 1GB card & carrycase $320
Powershot A570Is with a carrycase $280
Panasonic Fx30 with a 1GB card & carrycase $350

They have similar performance, A little different here or there but doesn't matter really...
Now I'd like to take a few videos from the camera also, so which of this camera has a the best & longest video mode at 640*480 with a 1gb card. I've read reviews but I'm really confused about the Canon cause it seems to have the lowest recording limit, something to do with the format it uses. I know a sony can record about 32-40 minutes at 640*480 at 15fps that I don't mind using [I have used older sony's]. Now what will be panasonics & canon similar figures...thanx...

15fps is ugly video. You will notice the difference very quickly between that and 30fps; the slower frame rate will look choppy. Always shoot at 30fps if you want to use the video for anything interesting.

Canon can put 8-9 minutes of 640x480 30fps video on a 1 Gig card. With the price of memory these days, I wouldn't buy anything smaller then a 2 Gig card, which you can get for about $15 these days. The A570 can record up to 4 G file size, or 32-36 minutes of video on a 4 G card.

I agree David Metsky...30fps is great, I've tried it, but sometimes I've used a still camera for only video [coz I would have another camera take still images]. For such an occasion where I need to take 20+ minutes of video & I used to have my 1gb memory stick & the camera set at 640*480 at 15fps.
I'm initially going to stick with the free memory card I get apart from the canon where I'm surely going to get a 1gb [min]
but thanx..canon is what I want to buy, but this video issue is really keeping me from doing it. Maybe I'll just get a 2GB.

anyway anything on panasonic???

Memory is cheap. Incredibly cheap. And getting cheaper every day. Buy a few more cards and don't worry about it. Buy the camera you want.
