Hi, I am new to this forum and somewhat new to cameras. I would like to know your opinion on what digital camera would work for me for what I like to do....
Price around 500.00 maybe alittle over that.
definate zoom as much as I can get, macro, yes.
I will want to print as big as I can, say up to at least a 12x14 or more.
Lots of closeups and portraits. Animals, landscape, just about anything that catches my eye. I really don't want to have to change lenses.
I hope this covers it and also doesn't make it impossible to help me :p
I have been thinking about the Canon Powershot S5, what do you think?
Thanks, Gail

The Canon S5IS is probably a good all round general purpose camera, especially if you want a long zoom for wildlife or sports action shots, and don't mind the size. You should be able to get good prints to 12x14", as long as the light isn't too bad, and the image stabilisation can help in low light as long as your subject is fairly still.

If low light photography of moving subjects is important to you, the Fuji S6000 might be a better choice, and give more wideangle (28mm against 36mm equiv) coverage which can be helpful for landscapes.
