I am looking for a replacement camera for MDH who finally "killed" his 6+ year old HP basic digital camera. He wants another camera but isn't willing to learn about features. My Coolpix is "too complicated". He was once quite good with an SLR, and wants to "just take pictures, not mess with menus and buttons". The old dog and new trick syndrome.

He takes mostly outdoor, and some action shots. Would prefer light weight.

Budget: try for under $150 dollars

Features: Fairly quick response between shots. Maybe zoom lens. Manual override would be good. Memory card not propritory, CF a plus since I have some old cards.

Cameras I've looked at: Canon A460.

The Canon A-460 is a good choice. Another that is equally simple camera is the Olympus FE-180, chosen as a "Best Beginner's Camera" by www.steves-digicams.com for being a really simple, yet profecient camera. Another option, and perhaps a bargain, would be to go to www.Kodak.com and search the refurbished cameras list.
