View Full Version : Rec for photographing documents?

I used to have a Canon Powershot 7.4 MB, but now I'm looking to upgrade. I primarily use my digital camera to photograph old newspapers and documents in low light situations - any recommendations? I'm looking for something small and easy to use. Any recommendations would be most appreciated - thanks guys! :)

Budget - Not really an issue, but I'd prefer to spend less than $1000.

Size - Not really an issue, but I'd prefer something smaller.

Features - Image quality is very important because I will make large prints of the documents I photograph and will try to read them!

I don't know how many megapixels or optical zoom I will need, but I will mostly be photographing documents in low-light situations and in up-close range. I would like to have more manual controls.

General Usage - I will be using the camera for photographing documents in indoor, low-light and up-close situations. I will be printing out large prints of this photographs and attempting to read them. Image stabilization would be nice, but I suspect that I will use a document camera stand to photograph most of these newspapers.

How low is lowlight? Can you post a scale down sample image with exif data?
Do you use a tripod?

What's Canon Powershot 7.4 MB? Is it A620?

For a budget of up to $1000, you can get an entry level DSLR.
