You got it right. He's about 12, I guess. At that level of competition everyone involved is a learner - the player, the official, the coach; etc.

In Victoria the refs are supposed to be 3 years older than the age group they are referring in junior games. A 12yo ref would only be in charge of under 9s or younger.

tim11
05-19-2014, 06:43 PM
That's probably the case here too K1W1. The boys in play are U11. The ref could be 14 instead of 12.

Here are the promised pics of geese and young.
One is a shot of an entire family as they patrolled the river looking for lunch/brunch/dinner/supper/tea. This bunch has a total of 15 youngsters.
They seem to be almost constantly eating unless they are doing as the other pic shows, digesting what they just pigged out on.
One fellow seems to be almost asleep as he digests his meal.

Yes. I realised that. To put a finer point, my favourite eagle eagle would be the 'Screaming Eagle'. I don't know why they call it the Bald Eagle since it's anything but.

Angkor Wat was bulit over night. :( Should tell that to those slack Romans. ("Rome wasn't built in a day") ;)

I'm glad you enjoy my temple shots. It's been such a pleasure shooting and posting them. However, if you chance to consider going thre now is the best time than ever before. Now it's easier to travel and find food to all tastes.

D70fan;
5-10 feet average distance with the 70-300 at 300. Minimum focus for the Zoom is 4.9'. I can get closer if I use the 150 Macro. They usually stay perched for long enough to get focused for the shot. Damselflies allow me to get closer, good thing as they are quite a bit smaller. some of them for tomorrow. :rolleyes:
Here is a full frame of the one on the leaf. The others are from a closer distance. This is usually about the furthest I would shoot unless it was an unusual pose or D'fly.

Faisal;
Move slow! Take your time and don't get frustrated if the insect flies off. Not necessarily spooked by you, just it's natural 'flighty' behavior. Dragonflies are more likely to be spooked, so caution and very slow movement is the rule with them. Some like to pick a specific spot and will perch repeatedly on the same branch or stem. Other species don't perch except during mating or at night. Those are the most difficult to shoot. I usually spend quite a bit of time trying to shoot in-flight pics and may get 1 or 2 out of a dozen or more flying shots that are good enough to save, even on high speed burst mode.
Darn, now I gave away all my secrets. :rolleyes:

Well spotted K1W1. These kids, under 8, aren't in competition. Sometimes they have official referees, sometimes a young (trainee) referee; other times none. So it's not unusual to see a parent with a whistle. At the end of the day, they kids enjoy the game. For adult games in competition it's a different matter.

Yep I went away as a solo affair for a long weekend sleeping in the back of my car (station wagon so no hardship). No wife or kids, just me and the camera - was the next best thing to paradise (but don't tell my wife).

It's very hard for us to get long periods of respite for the disabled kids (and they're much too hard to travel with due to the need for lifters etc) so this year it will be only simple little weekends away for the family.

Really glad you made the trip last year. Only sorry that I missed you on the U.S. journey.

I'm trying to figure out how to get to OZ in the next couple of years. Ideal trip would be: Start in Hawaii, then Japan, then Australia. That should last about 6 weeks.

It's a "bucket" thing. :rolleyes:

Great Wallaby shot, nice and close.
My contribution, 3 from a evening into night airshow. First show we have had since 2009. Wish I could have gotten decent shots of the pyro being carried by some of the aircraft. Was a very neat one by a glider pilot. Although I was shooting at times later at 2500 ISO, it wasn't enough even at 6400 to recover usable images.
These will have to suffice for now. The sunset one w/the P 51 is now on my desktop. Love that airplane!

Ah, an accidental catch basin then. :rolleyes:

In AZ desert areas, there are local catch basins everywhere. Typically during a monsoon rain the basins prevent local flash flooding as there can be an inch, or two, of rain in less than 15 minutes.

Yeah, so did I. Not sure why they are here in Marina, of all places, but they have been "flocking" around here for quite a while. We have quite a bit of protected land around here so it's pretty ideal (except for the mountain lions). Caught a shot (previously posted) of three hens sauntering down the sidewalk. I love your morning light shot K1W1.

So with 1 day to go is everyone going to post a last best shot to close out the form?

PS remember to migrate to the Google + group.

PPS thank you ever so much Jeff for giving us all a place to hang over the years - and good luck in all your future ventures.
