Yet another cat picture (sorry, Cincy). It's -12 degrees F with a windchill of -35F, so my pictures are all taken inside and I don't feel comfortable posting pictures of my children on a public forum. So, here is Silky again (with kit lens)...

Again, no pp and I am always open to constructive criticism.
I'm very impressed with how the camera captures her grayish-blue and brown and keeps her white areas white.

That reminds me of when I was a teenager, if one of us would pass out from drinking too much, we would draw stuff on that persons face and take pictures! Ahhhh the good 'ol days.
That really is a nice picture, Dave.

I had a picture of my daughters in cloth diapers and t-shirts on my family gallery a couple years ago and it was stolen and placed on an adult diapering fetish website.   I've been leery of posting their pictures in public ever since. Is there a way to protect it if I post one here?

Wow!! I am not sure if it would work on this site, but I know there are programs that allow you to make it so the picture you post cannot be right clicked on or saved from the site. Or, you could post links to your family gallery and just make your gallery download protected. I think that would work.
If I had been you, I would have slapped the sickos with a lawsuit. I just gotta ask the obvious question... how did you find out it was on the fetish website?:p Im just teasing:o

There were galleries full of children in diapers. I, along with many other parents, reported it to the FBI and the site has been shut down. The last I heard, the site owner's computer had been seized. Unfortunately, this is very common and there isn't a whole lot that can be done. :(

That's a legit question. ;) A friend who owns a children's clothing business had hits on her website from the forum. She followed the link back to them and discovered the galleries. She posted on a parenting forum and word about the site quickly spread. There were literally hundreds of stolen photos from personal and business galleries. Sick.

Nice picture, Kellie. I like the warm colours. I also like the smooth background.
That must have been quite a shock, finding pictures of your kids on such a website. I can well imagine that you are not comfortable sharing pictures of them on the internet now. As to ways to protect images, I think all methods of copy protection can be broken one way or the other, so the only way you can really protect them is by using obtrusive watermarks. Pictures that are watermarked in such a way won't be used for things like that, I guess. Also, keep the size small, large files would be attractive to use.

Very nice, Rich. I love the colours and the perspective added to the scene by the fence is great.
I miss spring.
I'm still waiting for winter :p . Seriously, this winter has been the warmest in years here in the Netherlands. You can count the days that there were subzero temperatures on one hand. It's not the land of ice-skating it used to be.
Fortunatly, there are still windmills  :

K1W1
What are those buildings used for?
They are bathing sheds, privately owned sheds on the beach front that families use when spending time on the waters edge. It's sort of a Melbourne tradition. Twenty or so years ago they were considered an eyesore and councils were trying to get rid of them. Now people have them designer decorated and I seem to remember that the record price for one is some Aus$600,000.00 (that is simply the shed, there is no land involved other than what is directly under the shed and that is owned by the Government as part of the beach reserve)

Nice shot, the bokeh is indeed quite good with that 18-135. That 18-135 seems to allow very close focussing distances, giving you about 1:3 macro at the tele end, I guess.

I went out yesterdy and bought a new tripod and head (Manfrotto 190pro + 322cr2.. more on this in another thread). Well seeing I got some new kit I had to head out last night in the icey cold weather to test it out ;)
Anyways the head allows you to turn the camera from landscape to portrait quite easy so snapped a couple shots like that. This is the result:

Could you expound a little on the HDR technique you used? I have seen several methodologies, and haven't tried any. Just wondering things like software, bit-depth of files merged, etc.
Thanks!

My polarizer was delivered yesterday. However, both today and yesterday the sky was overcast. Fortunatly, at the end of this day, there was an interesting sunset. I was a bit late, the sun had already disappeared behind the clouds. Here are two of the pictures I took. I know I'm cheating posting two at the same time, but I just don't have the patience to wait 4 hours to post the next . I accidentally used ISO1600 for all my shots today :o. Since i posted a picture of Auch cathederal yesterday and mentioned D'Artagnan. Here's the famous statue.
The statue of d'Artagnan who was based on the real life person, Charles de Batz, Comte d'Artagnan born nearby in the château de Castelmore, and written about by Alexandre Dumas.
Sorry about the quality of this pic, had dialled in +2EV unknowingly and couldn't work out what the heck was going on. Unfortunately this was really the only pic salvageable.

By the way, next to the photogallery I build myself, I now also have a flickr gallery. The old gallery was a nuissance to keep up to date, it didn't allow people to leave comments, and the server is down too often, so therefore I decided it was better to start using flickr. I will keep the old gallery, but will update it only rarely. The new gallery can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennis87

If you were using it continuously it has probably just overheated and stopped working until it cools down.

Which one do you guys think looks better?
I like the "blue" ski in the first photo though the other photo appears sharper.
I think adding to a little contrast and USM to the first one and it would be just fine. The 2nd is better overall, but the blown out sky takes away, so just play around with photoshop a bit and the first one will look fine.
If you dont mind, I took the liberty of doing a little adjusting to the first one.. what do you think, yomny?

K1W1 - got one of those going on in the mountains of NC right now too. Hope that isn't too close to home!
Photo taken from my property - about 2kms in a straight line to the chopper.
It was the third fire in that area in 24 hours. Somebody with matches is either going to burn the hills down again (last time was 10 years ago - three dead) or get caught by the locals and have the S**t kicked out of him before he's rescued by the cops.
My money shot (though it's not actually my money).

My friend and I took a stroll through San Joaquin Sanctuary again this afternoon. However, there wasn't much for opportunities. We tried tailing this guy after he made an appearance, but only had 1 chance to really get shots as he flew by. I managed to get a single shot (luckily a decent one).
Because he was so far (and I only have 300mm limit!), I decided to crop this 100%. No resizing was done.

I wouldn't mind going to Moab; however, I'll be in SoCal for about a week late March/early April and then at the end of that week I should be at the Las Vegas Grand Prix--the race is going to be run through downtown Las Vegas April 6-8, 2007 or the same weekend as the Moab event.
Check out turn #4. :D

So I tried out the lens on these - they didn't seem to be moving about too much!!

The only thing I put in there was the Nikon circular polariser, & I didn't even bother with it as I liked what I saw. That was on my front balcony & that shade lasted about 2 mins from start to finnish, then it was back to red. Thanks for the c&c.

Excuse me, as I'm still "learning" stuff - I don't know the EXIF data :o
Woke up early this morning with a mission to take a macro shot of a cherry blossom. I took a lot of flowers in full bloom, but this one I really liked the best. Look closely and you'll see a lil something extra :)
I'll post another pic of Poncho Libre (everyones favorite superhero) tomorrow :) haha

TRADERJOE quick way to see the exif data is when you're previewing the images on your camera press up on the selector pad, what ever you call the black thingy that moves around, and keep pressing up to get more info, alon with histogram and other neat stuff.

No. Its just your standard single seat buggy. I didn't look at the engine/transmission/transfer case but its got custom Dana 60s with rear steer. One of the local shops nearby built it. It performed very well.
jcon--now you must find out the date on the Indian. I have looked on the web, and can not find anything. Can you just zoom in on your pic and see it? I grew up in West Salem, and live in Sparta, so it was quite interesting to see the Indian!! Great pics by the way. As soon as I get something worthwhile, I will post.
