Anyone have experience with these? They are considerably cheaper than the name brands, but I've been afraid to try them.

Batteries are in the whole batteries, I don't think you'll find that cheaper generic batteries have any compatibility issues. The trade off, however, is battery life as typically generics have a lower power rating than the 'branded' counter parts* (they don't last as long), it's a trade off, as sometimes you can get 2 generic units for the same price as a single Branded OE unit, if the generics are say the rating then per $// etc. you get more battery life with the trade off of more battery swapping.

* If the battery type has been about for years then due to advances in technology generic units may now be of a HIGHER capacity compared to the OE replacements, however there may also be branded alternatives of even higher capacity.
