I'm very interested in your opinion of such a comparison.
Both have same 4mp sensor, ultra compact sises, focal range etc.
The first (ixus 40\SD300) is a bit newer, smaller, uses newer Digic 2, has biger LCD - that's his obvious advantages over ixus 400.
The question is which one is "better", mostly meaning image quality?
I've seen lot's of very nice, sharp and vivid pictures done by ixus 400 and than it's successor - 410. The range of colors, gamut, seemed to be wide, mountainig details in every parts of a picture and low noise (aspecially comparing to 5mp like ixus 500).
I havn't seen much pictures done by ixus 40 (SD300) but what i've seen looks to me a bit worse. Images are little (too) soft and "flat".
I wish to hope, that's ony difference between good picture and better one, not the cameras...
I'm waiting foward to read the upcoming test of ixus 40 on DCPR (hoping to see one on Dprev too!) and maybe some comparison...
I'd like to know what you think? Has anyone already had both in his hands?

I've compared the specification of both cameras.
They use almost the same optics - 35-105 vs 36-108 (both f/2.8 f/4.9) - at the first glance...
But ixus 40 uses its native: 5.8 17.4 mm (35mm film equivalent: 35 105mm) and ixus 410 - 7.4 22.2 mm (35mm film equivalent: 36 108mm).
It's quite a big difference in size, tough! This is (cf ratio) 1:6.03 vs 1:4.86.
The 410 has 7 elements in 5 groups (2 aspherical elements) and 40 has 6 elements in 5 groups (2 UA elements). Well, I wander if newer and more adcanced (UA elements), but smaller construction (meaning optics) is able to produce same good pictures or even better... I have some doubts :(
Maybe this the reason of using 4mp sensor as a top model of the new (ixus) line?

P.S. there is also max shutter speed difference: 1/1500s vs 1/2000s (don't know why, though)
