It is worth it if you really need the extra zoom. You might want to get a 100-400 lens to compliment your 18-125. I have a D70s and use the Sigma 18-200. So far so good, but I do have occasional situations where I wish I had more zoom.

The 50 1.8 is a fantastic lens, here's one I took with it, no flash :

Here are some pictures I took of my daughter with my Nikkor 50mm 1.8. I added the soft filter in CS2

Great pictures of your great in-house model. Definately "framers"!

Esoterra, those are fantastic shots, very tack sharp. Kids make good models, huh? I'm always snapping shots of my son :)

very nice indeed!!

now, pardon my ignorance....good for no flash photos, and i take it u cannot zoom with the lens as it is a constant 50mm??

thus its greeat for low light shots

any afordable lens with zoom that is quick like this for low light shots??

thanks

cory

That's right, it's a fixed lens. I don't really find this to be a problem for what I use the lens for though, so it's really an afterthought. It's great for low-light shots due to the f1.8 max aperture.

An "affordable" zoom that's f2.8 through the zoom range would be the Sigma 18-50mm. Not as large of an aperture as f1.8, but you get the 18-49mm range with it :)
