View Full Version : Sony MegaPixels question.

I have a Sony F707(5meg) and a P52(3.2) meg. When ever I take a picture, I never get the full Mpixels. Generally the F707 gives me a picture of about 2.2mb, and the P52 gives me about 1.2mb. I generally set the image size at 3:2 and picture quality at fine.

my 4x6" pictures turn out great, I haven't printed any 8x10 yet.

Any info would help

I am guessing that the sizes you are mentioning are the size of the files that are being created. These sizes are not really related to the megapixel rating of the camera. For example my 5MP Olympus creates a 2560x1920 image in pixel dimensions. This is 4,915,200 pixels, or approximately 5 million. The average file size I get for a high quality JPEG is about 2.2Mb. If I wanted to I could set the compression even higher and probably end up with a sub 1Mb file size; even then the resulting picture would still be 2560x1920 pixels. They would tend to be somewhat less than great in terms of color accurracy and sharpness, but there would still be that many individual 'dots' in the image.
