I'm looking to buy a D50 Kit with a second zoom lense.
What's holding me back is I do not know if it has image stabilization.
I understand my next choice the Canon Rebel XT with the right zoom lense has it.
This is a critical factor in my decision.

Can anybody tell me if/how I can get it on the D50?

Image stabilization usually starts to make sense at longer focal lenghts. No kit lens has IS, not from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Minolta.

The Konica Minolta entry level DSLR has IS in the body, it is not a lens part that moves but the sensor itself. For Canon and Nikon you have to look for lenses that have a moving element. Canon lenses have the letters IS in their designation, the Nikon lenses have VR in the name. Some Sigma tele lenses have it too, they have the letters OS.

Don't forget the EF 70-300 IS USM from Canon.

Thanks guys for giving me some recommendations.

How much do you think the Nikon 18-200 VR will sell for?

It's been advertised at US$699 in a couple of places (join the queue). Here in Australia I'm guessing Aus$1500 but the Nikon importer is claiming that they won't know the price until around Christmas.

The nikon 18-200 vr looks nice, but it's $700-800. As a beginner would it be right for me to get the D50 body and wait for that lense to sell and have it as my only lense for awhile or should I get the (nikon 18-70) now and get the sigma 70-300 APO later after having the camera awhile as a zoom (but it wouldn't have vr and it seems like I'd need a tripod then which is a drag.)
