A friend of mine has a D70 that cannot keep the pop-up flash down anymore. Is this a well known problem with the D70? His camera is about a year old.

Hans,

I usually have people come into my office to seek medical attention. They always seem to say "their friend" has the problem. I know its really themselves they are talking about. Yes it is a common problem when you take too much viagra...its hard to keep the pop-up down

:-)

Well, you can believe what you want, it's a free world in that respect at least! :)

But this is my camera.

Hans,

lol I am just teasing you! :-P

I havent had a problem with my flash popping up randomly. It could be that the catch release mechanism is malfunctioning. I would recommend your friend calling Nikon (1-800-NIKONUSA I think? and if you live in USA) and speak to their service department. It might mean that he/she mighthave to send it in to have it looked at and fixed if neccessary, a week or so that they wont have the camera.

I'm sorry, I'm brand new here so I had no clue about the way people deal here with one another.

Anyway, apparently it is not a common problem with the D70, and there is no solution but to send it in for repair. I kind of presumed that, but I figured a second opinion here would help.

And I'm from the Netherlands, but my friend is from the USA. And you were close, I do also have a D70 myself.

Thanks for the answer!

Just out of interest what is the lens on your camera?

Sigma 18-125. But I'm strongly tempted by the new Nikon 18-200 VR :)

Thanks. I thought it probably was. It was top of my upgrade list until the Nikon announcement, now I'll just have to wait and see how much of a premium the Australian Nikon distributor wants and then decide whether something 4 x the Sigma price will be worthwhile for me.
You never know Santa may arrive this year in the form of realistic Nikkor VR pricing. :D

In Europe, I have seen announcements for 730 - 750. Don't know how that translates into AUS $ though. The market is not yet so transparent that you get the same prices everywhere. Europe is usually more expensive than the USA
