View Full Version : The Shortest Lens (and the Longest Zoom lens)

As a counterpart to the longest lens (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14024), I'm posting what I think is the shortest (in focal length) lens.

This lens is the Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens. It's such a wide lens that it can see behind itself!

5.2 kg, .236 m diameter

• Amazing picture angle of 220° - 40° wider than standard fisheye lenses - produces circular image on the film.
• Close focusing down to 0.25m (0.9 ft.).
• Convenient operation, thanks to a cantilevered lens stand/tripod mounting socket which supports both camera and lens.

Here's a size comparison with the entire Nikon lens family. It's in the lower right corner.

That huge white lens is Nikon's 2000mm mirror lens, and the really long one is Nikon's 1200-1700 f/5.6-8 lens which I believe is still manufactured.
