Let me preface this by saying that I do not work for Adorama, do not have any relationship with them, and in fact have never ordered anything from them...
but they are taking orders for the 18-200 VR for $669 U.S. dollars at this link..

Now that I can probably afford.

No mention of an expected ship date, though.

It seems from what I have read that the shipping date will be December some time.
It's a shame that by the time this lens travels south to the Antipides and through the hands of our wonderful Nikon Distributor it's price will have probably inflated to well over Aus$1500.00.

Does Adorama ship to Australia? Almost tempting to start a grey market business.;)

Adorama is a decent enough business. Never heard anything negative.

Official ship date is December 20th. But rumor has it that it's really the 15th. Either way pre-order if you want to be first on the list.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
That price is much better.
Too bad I don't have a N body or money. :p

On the surface that's always a tempting thought but,

US$700 is close to Aus$1000
on top of that there is postage and insurance- say Aus$50
plus GST (sales tax for want of a better description) -around Aus$100 at least
and no warranty (not a major concern on a lens)
If one can eventually pick up the lens locally around Aus$1300 - 1400 then it's hardly worth the hassle of grey marketing.
Of course if the RRP turns out to be closer to Aus$2000 then it's an entirely different matter.

FWIW RRP on the 70-200VR is Aus$3375.00 (US$2465)

Ouch, that's exactly a 50% markup!

Didn't I read somewhere once that Artists need to suffer for their art?
I'm definitely not an Artist but I do suffer sometimes living downunder.

Now that... is ridiculous. Is that the case with all photo equipment or just lenses?

Looks like they favor the 18-125 as it is the same price as here. Nikon Capture is $99 US and the 70-300 APO is about $220 US. The D50 kit is $899 (msrp). So not a huge difference (except NC4).
