Today when taking a bunch of random pictures, I noticed Im getting a bluish purlple halo around clouds in the sky... Im suspicious that my Sigma 18-200 is acting up?? What do you think? Here is the picture... come to think of it I took this thru the car window...maybe thats causing the effect?

Shooting though auto glass will cause all sorts of wierd effects. If your results, sans car windows, are good then don't worry about it. Actually the picture you posted isn't that bad. Not a framer, but like I said shot though auto glass all kinds of wierd things happen.

I usually roll down the window when shooting from a vehicle.;)

ok, now Im starting to wonder...I am getting that same weird halo even when not taking pics through a car window. I notice it when I take pictures into the sun - sunsets. Is that bad for the sensor? Here are some pics that I have circled the trouble spots. what do you think might be causing this anomally (sp)?

Looks like a gradient of sensor bloom. I have never seen this before. Have you tried using different lenses? Are you post processing?

Im not post processing. I havent checked for the halo on my Nikkor 50mm 1.8 when shooting sunsets, but I notice when I hold down my Depth of field button (during the day) while using the lens with the problem (sigma 18-200) that there is an assortment of colors (instead of just the black screen like effect that shows apperture setting). I dont see this color when I use my Nikkor lens.. so Im thinking it might have something to do with my Sigma lens. I did use some cleaning solution from the local camera store to clean the lens (mount side) and I used a special lens cleaning cloth to rub it gently. I am wondering if I might have rubbed off any special filter like film on the lens itself? Any other suggestions as to what this might be? This is really starting to dampen my photography excitement!

Try another Sigma 18-200 lens... or wait for the Nikkor 18-200 VR comming down the pike early next year.

Off topic, but is this taken in the Mojave Desert or its whereabouts? Looks kind of familiar since we drove to Las Vegas and had to pass through it.

I pray you never find yourself on this stretch of road approx. 150 miles NW of Las Vegas up Highway 95. I was too lazy to get out of the car, but wanted to document my drive up to Tonopah, NV for work.
