View Full Version : Is this normal?

I use a Lexar 128MB SD card and it says that I can take 75 photos at Large Superfine, but after about only 47 shots "Memory Card is full" comes on. One time I did get 59 shots though. It's strange.

So yeah, is this normal?

The actual size of your JPEGs is variable due to the fact that the "compressability" is dependent on the contents of the photograph - more intricate/high-detail subjects will result in larger file sizes.
Because of this, the "number of photos" indicator you see with an empty card is only an estimate. The actual number you'll get often varies .. so yeah, it's normal. :)
As an extreme example - with a Canon Powershot G5 (5 megapixels) one day, I took two Large/SF pictures, one of grass and leaves around noon, and the other of the moon at night in an empty sky. The grass picture weighed in at 2.4 megabytes. The moon shot, on the other hand, was just under 140 kilobytes in size.

Okay. Thanks for answering. :) I thought maybe something was wrong with my card.
