When
I realized that I had both the Coolpix 5700 and the DiMAGE 7i in
my possession at the same time, I wanted to try another head-to-head
shootout, similar to the one I did with the Coolpix
5000 and Olympus E-10 last year.
These
photos were taken in a variety of lighting conditions, at Mission
Dolores and Crissy Field here in San Francisco.
Clicking
on the thumbnail will show an 800 x 600 version of the photo. Do
not judge the photo quality using either of these reduced-sized
images. To see the original, full-size image, click on View Full
Size Image below each thumbnail. To see the settings used for the
picture, click on View EXIF Data.
Photos
were taken in Program mode, ISO 100, with everything else at their
default setting. I used a tripod for the indoor shots. These are
unedited, straight out of the camera.
For
more sample photos, check out the Coolpix
5700 and DiMAGE
7i galleries.
If
you have any questions, suggestions or comments, let
me know. Please don't write asking which I think is better!
I put these up so you, the reader, can make this decision!
There
has been some talk about this test being unfair because it was shot
using automatic settings. The problem with tweaking the settings
manually is that whichever side "loses" in the comparison
will claim that the settings used weren't the best ones. In other
words, it won't be fair then either. I probably won't be doing these
side-by-side comparisons again in the future.
