  Nikon Coolpix P7000
Nikon has introduced three new Coolpix cameras today, and it shouldn't take more than a cursory read of the specs to figure out who this first model is going after. The new Coolpix P7000 is undoubtedly targeted at the Canon PowerShot G11, with a similar design and feature set. Of course, we both will have to wait for review units to arrive before we know how it compares in the real world. Here are its features and specifications:

  • 10.1 effective Megapixel, 1/1.7" CCD
  • F2.8-5.6, 7.1X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28 - 200 mm
  • Optical image stabilization
  • EXPEED C2 processor
  • 3-inch LCD display with 921,000 pixels
  • Optical viewfinder with 80% coverage
  • Full manual controls, with RAW format support; ISO range of 100 - 6400
  • Scene Auto Selector picks a scene mode for you (as its name implies)
  • Dials on top of camera allow for easy adjustment of exposure compensation, ISO, white balance, bracketing, and more
  • Hot shoe for external flash, plus built-in wireless flash support
  • Handy virtual horizon feature
  • Face, smile, and blink detection
  • Records video at 1280 x 720 (24 fps) with stereo sound and use of optical zoom; uses H.264 codec
  • Playback features include photo retouching and advanced tone level information
  • External mic input, HDMI output
  • Optional wide-angle conversion lens and wireless remote
  • 79 MB built-in memory + SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot
  • Uses EN-EL14 lithium-ion battery; 350 shots per charge
  • Ships in late September for $499

  Nikon Coolpix S8100
Next up is the Coolpix S8100 which, as you might have guessed, replaces the S8000. This compact ultra zoom camera features a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, which allows for high speed continuous shooting, plus Full HD video recording. Intrigued? Read on:

Last, but certainly not least, is the ultra-compact Coolpix S80, which features a large OLED touchscreen display. Here's more:
