I've bought all my digital cameras except the one I bought last week at my local Best Buy (the Best Buy chain didn't carry the one I wanted.)

It is amazing how they can sell so many digital cameras so quickly, especially the brand new models, but they do. If you ask, they can try to locate the camera from another store and have it transferred to their store. They get shipments in frequently, so keep calling or stopping by.

If you do a search in the Canon fourm, the thread about people having problems with the video mode in the SD500, a guy has posted about his HORRIBLE experience with Best Buy. DEFINITLY read what he says BEFORE you ever decided to buy something pricey from BB

Being i work for best buy i can tell you this. We sell out of cameras a lot. Especially if they are popular. The s2 came in and within 2 days it was gone. I can't speak for all stores, but we inform our customers of what is coming in advance so we know there is a lot of anticipation for certain products.

We (sales associates) don't decide when to order products or how many to order. We just get them. Like now for instance we have a ton of kodak 7330's, but we were told they weren't going to be sold anymore, but we are all sold out of the z730 and z740, both new models. Honestly, sometimes i don't know what corporate is thinking with their supply of products and also the way they are displayed in the store, but that is out of the average employees hand.

If we don't have it in stock we can usually use Customer Fullfillment, which is free shipping of a product in 3-5 days. Other wise we try to give a rough estimate of when they'll come in, and other best buy's (transfers) are always a possiblity as well.

Another thing that many people don't know, is that we do indeed sell almost everything that is available on bestbuy.com, just we don't have it stocked at the store. The Customer Fullfillment option can get you all other items that aren't sold at stores (expanded assortment) with no shipping charge.

But like i said, that is how my department opperates, and i know not all stores are really focused on helping the customer as opposed to just selling a product.. But then again, thats why we are one of the best in the company.

I just read his issue and there are a few key things. One sometimes customer service can be a pain. Trust me, i've dealt with them. The best people to deal with are the people that sold you the camara, we'll usually try our best to solve your problem. Geek squad "agents" don't always have as much as a knowledge of camera's as it seems they should. At our store we have a lot of new agents that are still being trained in other areas. They honestly are mostly all about computers and when there is a problem will come to me or my associates to have a camera looked at.

Another key thing is that he was stating it to be defective. Something is only defective if canon says so and has a recall or something of that nature. When my lcd screen broke i told them about all the reports but it didn't matter unless canon were to report it to us. So if it was known that by his 12th camera he'd have the whine, well maybe by then he shouldn't have bought another one if the whine was too much to take away from the camera.

And like i said in my other post. All BB's are different. Yes same name, but different personel. Some handle situations better, and other employees can be complete stuck up ingnorant and have attitudes. One bad experience doesn't neccessarily mean that all BB's suck.

The S2 is a very popular camera. Did it ever occur to you that BB is ordering as much as it can, and the bottleneck is in supply? I'm not defending BB, but I'm sure they know well that the S2 is a hot camera. Where do you live? Check on their website and do a quick inventory stock before you go to save yourself the disappointment.

Your Best Buy store can have your camera of choice shipped in from another store if available. They did on by Canon 350D/XT and took $50 off the price.

Default Let's be realistic

The S2 is one of (if not the) most popular cameras on the market. To blame a store because they are selling them too fast is rediculous.

Further, if you were so disatisfied after the first visit, then why di you go back? You don't say if any other store had the same models in stock...

I bought my Nikon 8800 at Best Buy right before Christmas, the camera starting production on December 4, 2004. The nearest BestBuy to me is an hour away. I use BestBuy on-line. Here's why. If I have ANY problem with ANY on-lnie purchase, I can take it back to the nearest BestBuy, without ANY problem.

As another example, one of my co-workers was sharing that he bought a GPS map tracker at a store in North Carolina. He went to Florida on vacation and somewhere in route the GPS tracker broke. He went to the next BestBuy, the purchase was on computer, and a replacement was given.

As a matter of fact, when I wanted the Nikon 8800, the sales people at the store told me to order it on-line. Something you can do at the store or at home. They told me that they only expected to get eight 8800's on the original shipment. However, the on-line supply center had an unlimited amount. The shipping was free and when I ordered on a Monday, UPS was here on Friday.

My purchases with BestBuy don't include just my camera. Two years ago BestBuy sent a thirty foot truck all the way to my house, the only delivery in my county, to drop off my new television set. It was snowing and the truck got stuck and I had to help dig them out. Great bunch of people.

Yeah, sometimes the younger sales people can be a little "short", but all and all; I can spend hours in a BestBuy and they're welcome to my business.
