Does anyone have any experience with using the Digital Rebel for infrared photography? I would like to try it, but with an SLR Im not sure how I could do the "remote control" test. I've done some searches, but there is little I could find on the Rebel. The more I see infrared photos, the more I want to try it!
From what I hear, it is next to impossible due to a filter mounted on top of the sensor in camera that is specifically designed to block IR. I was reading an article last week by someone who found the DReb "cheap" enough to remove this filter, but then the focus was off. He was experimenting with replacing the filter with clear glass of the same size to restore the focus. Sound too complicated? Yeah, to me as well. I don't think that a $900 camera is cheap enough to experiment in this way...yet. For now, there are some PS actions that replicate IR.
In the above link, the author speaks of a firmware hack that turns on the features of the 10D on the Dreb. ("I've installed a new firmware hack that turns on all the features of the 10D.") Has anyone seen of had experience with this here? If so, any information would be appreciated.
It allows for Mirror Lock Up, FEC, ISO 3200, and some custom features. Installation was a matter of puttng the file onto a CF card and turning on the camera. Quick and painless. Let me know if you need any further info, I'm still experimenting with all the new features myself.
