Default Canon Powershot G6 vs Panasonic Lumix FZ20

I would appreciate opinions and comments from owners/users of the two cameras as I am undecided over which one to purchase.

Image quality is crucial. I will be using the camera in a variety of situations - from landscape/outdoor shots to informal close-up people portraits (at parties, weddings etc) and the odd bit of food photography. Through this website, I have been able to compare the photos taken with each camera. it seems to me that the Lumix images are lighter than the Canon's but the Canon's images have more tone and contrast. Can anyone confirm this?

I like the Lumix's image stabilisation feature but am also partial to the canon's lighter weight. I won't be using the video function of either cameras.

Thanks in advance.

Since image quality is "crucial", I would go with the G6, which seems to be highly regarded in this area.

I bought G6 on December 2004. Now I am very happy with its picture quality.

As you said "image quality is crucial", the answer is G6.

I own the G6 and am very happy. The photo quality is one of the best I know of other than DSLR. I think you will be very happy with the G6
