Default best compact sony?

I want to upgrade my sony P52 for a 5mp and 4x opt. I have a few memory sticks and AA chargers and batteries. I dont care about video. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will also either be getting a slr or a pana zf20 but feel that I still want a good p&s to have with me all the time.
Thank you.

Default Sony Upgrade

Take a look at the now discontinued V-1, still available for approx. $300.
5 M.P.'s, 4X optical zoom. While not tiny it's still compact enough to carry
around in a pocket or purse. Just a year ago it would have cost $500-$600,
6 months ago, $400-$500, so it's quite a bargain now.

Default W1 is a good option

The Sony W1 is good along different criteria. Reading the instruction book is a necessity.

The W1's best features:
1. Responsive 2.5 inch LCD
2. Compact enough to fit in your hand
3. 5 megapixel performance
4. Fine MPEG movie performance (but you don't need that)
5. Clear, bright images

It's drawbacks:
1. USB door has a rubber snap
2. 3x zoom

Default I also vote for W1 (or V1)...

When my new W1 (in sleek Black) arrives, it will be my 9th digital camera! I have owned a Coolpix 990, a 3.2 mpg Sony Cybershot, Canon S50, S410, Sd200, Minolta XG and Xt, and still own (and love)my Panasonic Z20. To make a long story short, I feel that the W1 is the best compact camera out there-period. I spent an hour today at the local camera store and had them take near identical pictures of me and my baby and develop them. I wanted something compact but one capable of producing SHARP indoor pictures. I tested the Optio S5i, Minolt Xt, Nikon 5200, and Sony W1, P100, and P150. There was no comparison - the W1 simply produced the BEST LOOKING PICTURE. PERIOD. The colors were more saturated than the P100/150 . The Nikon 5200 was a close second but Nikons' unfortunately have too much shutter lag. To be honest, I was hoping to be happy with the results of the P100 or P150 since it is such a sleek camera but they simply paled in comparison. Yes, I wish the W1 was thinner (don't we all wish that? ) but it is definitely pocketable. And if I wanted an ultracompact that took "okay-looking" pictures, I would keep my Canon SD200. So, I am hopeful that this will be a "keeper". I got it for $286 online. The V1 has the same great lens PLUS 4x optical zoom. It is however, much thicker than the W1 and in my opinion, not pocketable. Btw, I saw that the localWolf Camera store was still selling them for $299 so as long as you don't mind the bigger bulk, it should suit you perfectly.
