Question Testing 10D CCD with no-light image

I'm selling my 10D on eBay (I played with a 20D - need I say more?). One prospective purchaser asked me to "take a picture" with the lens cap on at f11 at 1/100 (I substituted 1/125) to check for noisy pixels on the sensor. I tried doing it, but the camera won't record the image, even in Manual mode, because it's more than 2 stops out of proper exposure (duh).

Is there a way to over-ride this? Is this a reasonable way to test the sensor?

Thanks,
Jim Robertson

Just tried it on my rebel, Manual mode, F11, 1/125th.

You in manual mode?

Smile I needed to change one of the custom settings

I needed to turn off auto exposure lock and auto focus lock in custom settings, and then I could create the "image".
