Default flash won't pop up

I just got a new EOS Rebel 300D and when in Basic Modes, the autoflash won't pop up in obviously low light. I've tried numberous settings to get it to pop up automatically with no luck.

What am I missing? Help.

I think it all depends on what modes you are in. I tried mine and the flash popped up in the full auto mode, portrait mode, macro mode, and night portrait mode. It did not pop up in the infinity mode, the sports mode, or obviosly in the no flash mode. On the manual side of the dial, you are responsible for popping the flash when you need it. Hope this solves your problem. If not, you might have a faulty camera.
